I wondered why the Nene doll was always so cheap and was the least popular, even though she was the prettiest and had the nicest-looking outfit. After getting one, I see why. The doll is indeed the prettiest, but her craft is a MESS that STAINS everything! The skirt and keychain are covered in black paint that is similar to scratch-off tickets, except that this black paint stains anything it touches. After trying some etching and seeing the paint shavings staining the cloth I was using to wipe the stains away, I decided to take the keychain and skirt to the sink and just wash it all off. It completely stained the dish rag I used to clean it. By the way, the keychain etching does not reveal rainbow colors like the photos show; it's just hot pink. The skirt is a sheet of iridescent silver plastic. I liked the look of the black skirt on the doll and had planned to keep it black, but after seeing the staining of the paint from the keychain, I knew I had to remove all of the paint to avoid damaging the doll. It's almost impossible to get all of the paint off of the skirt because it's under the Velcro. I have separated the skirt for now, put it on a shelf. I might use the silver plastic skirt as a pattern to sew a skirt from black fabric to replace the plastic skirt. I haven't tried the markers or coloring the pants. I like the pants as they are, in black and white; I like how they look with a black skirt. The set comes with a LOT of excess plastic. I'm not a super-devoted save-the-planet kind of person, but come on! This is a crazy amount of plastic that most people will throw away. The markers won't last long, so those oversized brush-shaped tips are a waste. The earrings are as big as dinner plates; they look ridiculous on the doll, so those will be dropped into a random-accessories box and forgotten. The ugly headband will join the earrings in the Accessories Box of No Return. The eyebrow stickers are ugly; she's going to keep her own pretty eyebrows. The bracelet won't stay on her arm. The hair brush handle is far too short to hold, so that's useless. The big pot of extra black paint -- haha, yeah, that's going straight to the trash!!! The neon-green picture frame is fine. I won't be using the included drawing of the Nene character, but the frame is fine for the kids, and the Nene drawing can be a guide for cutting the kids' own drawings to fit the frame. As for the doll itself, it's fine. I wish the eyes weren't so gigantic. (What the heck is with toy companies these days making dolls with bigger and bigger eyes??? Soon the whole head will be just one giant eyeball!) I like that the eyes are green, though; it's hard to find dolls that have green eyes. And she has a nice friendly smile, which is also rare in dolls these days. I wish the feet were normal rather than stuck in permanent tippy-toe; I HATE tippy-toe feet on dolls! But I like that her outfit covers her body; that's something not many dolls have these days. In a toy store full of dolls that look like they're dressed for a night on the street corner, I'm always glad to see a doll that has decent clothes. I hate her pink platform high heel boot monstrosities! Dear doll companies, can we have dolls that have NORMAL clothes and shoes, PLEASE???!!!!
